I’m Spicy @ Seksyen 17, PJ

Today, i have gathering cum celebrate Mooncake festival with friends at I’m Spicy. So you are looking for some real Thai food without the travel? Well unload those bags because I’m Spicy’s just around the corner. Serves authentic Thai Street food, home cooked style. And they serve pork!!

Tucked in one corner end of a row of shop houses in this quiet neighborhood, the food here is undoubtedly good, however portions are small if you’re in a large group hoping to go family style.

The restaurant is very bright inside. Not like other Thai restaurant that i have been which usually have dim light. The place does not have any curtains or soft panels to absorb noise and as it fills up, noise level increases. And the place does fill up pretty fast so a reservation for big groups would definitely be advisable to avoid disappointment.

Open kitchen.

I’m Spicy House Drink (Rm 15 per jug)
Ice blended comprising pandan, lemongrass, lime and mint leaves. Very refreshing drinks and it paired perfectly with all the spicy food we had.

Som Tam (Rm 12)
Papaya salad was fresh but somehow, i felt that it was lack of something, can’t really tell what’s missing.  All i can taste was just spicy and sour.

What’s a Thai meal without tom yam soup?

Tom Yum Seafood (Rm 18 for small; Rm 30 for large)
Choice of clear or thick soup. With prawns, sotong, clams in the spicy sourish soup based, this is for sure will kick your taste buds, be ready for the spiciness! It would be better if sourness can be stronger. Not the best, but acceptable.

Red curry (RM18 for small; RM24 for large)

Opt for chicken or pork. We opted for chicken, it was very good.

Green Curry (RM18 for small; RM24 for large)
No picture for this as i was too hungry until forgot. 😛
It comes with chicken or pork too. We ordered Pork curry. Cooked in their homemade curry paste using only freshest ingredients. Loaded with herbs and spices, pork slices and  instead of the eggplants that are usually found in green curries, this one substituted it with mushrooms. Very fragrant and not spicy, suitable for kids who can’t take spicy food.

Both the gravy of red and green curry was thick and nice to go with white rice.

Deep Fried Pork Ribs (RM25)
House Specialty. Deep fried pork ribs marinated in special blend of herbs and spices.

This was awesome! Can’t recall the name of this dish. Fried vegetable. We ordered 2 sets, really good!

Off menu item – House Specialty – Wrap Meat (RM20) which was a very unique platter of lettuce to wrap the provided flat noodles, mince pork with deep fried crispy lards and some chilli sauce blend. It was good and different. How you eat this? Ok, take a fresh leaf wrapping all the other ingredients in it and consumes while wrapped and folded.

Mooncake as dessert after the dinner. Thanks Eevon for this special mooncake from Hong Kong!

Waiting for the food to be served…

I wouldn’t mind returning to I’m Spicy. There’s pork meat for you swine-lovers, and parking is very easy at night. The only thing  thwarting me from giving it a higher recommendation is the price vs. portion issue.
